Supporting local development
The farmhouse-inn "Posada San Rafaël" is a small family business which was set up by a French-Guatemalan couple and run by the owner, Oilio Mendez. He works with local people living there.
At the Posada, hospitality means satisfying all kinds of needs for specific stays. Standard groups of tourists, unconventional travelers or backpackers could meet volunteers, students or trainees, national employees and international volunteers.
The Posada is the place for people from different backgrounds and cultures to meet in a spirit of sharing.

The "Posada San Rafaël" is also a place where civic responsibilities can be applied to local development:
- campaigns to reforest and preserve the soil
- restoring the mayan patrimony
Part of the posada's budget is given over to an associative fund in order to share in the expenses of the workshops run by volonteers and carried out to the local communities
The "Posada San Rafaël" is currently part of network of solidarity groups which consider the question of sustainable tourism in order to promote the concept of staying with local people to improve their resources.
